What a motorcycle bill of sale must include
- Both parties' full legal names and addresses.
- The 17-character VIN, stamped on the steering neck and usually repeated on the engine case. Read it off the bike, not the advert.
- Year, make and model, plus engine displacement in cc — this is what distinguishes trims and affects insurance and, in some states, licence class.
- The odometer reading, with a disclosure. Motorcycles are motor vehicles, so the federal rule applies.
- Sale price, date, an as-is clause, and both signatures.

Watch the engine and frame numbers
Motorcycles get rebuilt far more often than cars, and mismatched engine and frame numbers are common. A replaced engine is not necessarily a problem, but it is something both parties want written down rather than discovered at the DMV.
If the engine number does not match the title, record that on the bill of sale explicitly.
Odometer disclosure applies
